A little advice

So, like many, I of course have some advice.  The biggest thing I learned is to take time for yourself!  They say sleep when the baby sleeps, and they couldn't be more right.  One thing Brent and I did was split up the night.  If it was, say, 11pm and Charlie woke, that was my time to take care of him.  If it was, say, 4am, it would be Brent's.  I think this really saved us because we knew who had what 'shift' and knew we were guaranteed (sort of) a few hours of sleep.

Several other things.  Bring that baby out!  I get so many people are afraid of newborns and germs, but seriously.  They can't live in a bubble!  :)  (That brings a funny image to me....)

Let's see.  Definitely agree with the make noise when she's asleep.  Now, I never vacuumed while Charlie was asleep, but I didn't keep the tv down real low, or voices low, or any of that stuff.  Stuff got done when it had to be.

Almost everyone would agree that breast milk is best for baby, but don't get down on yourself if she doesn't latch right away, or even not at all.  Charlie never latched, and so I made sure to pump whenever possible and he had formula the rest of the time.  Ask for help, most hospitals have some kind of lactation consultant or nurse who teaches that sort of thing.

I agree with someone else, don't really stock up on newborn size diapers and clothes.  They grow so stinkin' fast!  And yes, they go through a lot of clothes, but they are also washable and they grow out of them.  And then you're left with a bunch of cute little clothes she never probably got to wear!  Also, buy bigger sizes when they're on clearance.  This has saved me tons of money, and I still got the "cute" clothes for Charlie, I just had to wait for him to grow into them.  I've finally filled up 2 of those storage bins with his clothes, and he's in 4t/5t!

I've probably have tons more advice, so feel free to ask me.  :)  And everyone else with a kid.

And then do what YOU feel is best.  :)

I am so very very very happy for you, Colleen.  I know how darn excited I was to hear this was actually happening, your dream coming true.  I cannot wait to see pictures of your little cutie when she arrives!

With love, and bright happy baby blessings,

Jamie
