Congratulations on your bambina-to-be! Colleen and I went to college together, and played in several of the bands together. Here's my advice whether you want it or not :-)
1) Sleep now while you can.
2) When baby sleeps, you sleep. The house can wait. Really.
2a) Swaddle, swaddle and swaddle some more. Read and watch the DVD "Happiest Baby on the Block" by Dr. Harvey Karp. If I knew then what I know now, my daughter would have had a very different first four months. This worked WONDERS on AJ. GET A MIRACLE BLANKET OR A WOOMBIE. We loved our woombie and MB. Amazing.
3) Trust your motherly instincts. Always.
4) Do not let your child control your life, as in - when you can and can't leave the house. No, "Sorry, I can come to dinner. That's the baby's nap time."
5) Get them into a bedtime routine while they are young. Do NOT get into the habit of laying down with her when she is an older baby or toddler. You will never get a break. Next thing you know you'll be going to college to tuck her in ;-)
6) Take a picture every week....if not every week, every month. Make a scrapbook (even digital) for each year of life. You'll be glad you did.
7) Don't tiptoe around her. Make noise when she sleeps.
8) If she falls asleep in your arms, snuggle. Enjoy it while it lasts. When she is 8 she won't want to snuggle. She'll think you're stupid and don't know anything.
9) Toys are overrated. Especially for babies. All she needs is you and a few sensory toys the first few months.
And finally....
10) When the baby sleeps, you sleep. The house can wait. Really. Hahaha!! That one was worth repeating.
IN ALL SERIOUSNESS......THIS IS ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW:
You.Do.What.You.Think.Is.Right.Trust.Your.Gut.And.Love.The.Heck.Out.Of.Her!!!!!!! :-)
Best wishes to both of you!
Kris
